Disabled people deserve a living wage

This means there shouldn’t be ridiculous limits on how much someone can make while on disability benefits

I’d like to add that this also means acknowledging that being disabled is often expensive, and thus should actually be given proportionately more to ensure they can afford expenses like wheelchairs, medically prescribed diets, prosthetics, modified vehicles, and accessible housing as needed for their condition.

Some aspects of “boys will be boys” are okay and some are not. It is okay for boys to get covered in mud. It is okay for boys to play sports. It is okay for boys to be strong. When it becomes not okay is when boys get destructive. One Percent Feminists are not trying to make boys into girls. We’re just trying to convince you that you can be softer and gentler and still be a boy. You don’t have to give your buddy slug bugs. You can give your buddy kisses instead and you’re still masculine. You don’t have to dominate your girlfriend. You can let her be strong too and you’re still masculine. You don’t have to be a macho pig to be a man.

i wonder how many white “anime inspired owo” artists on this fuck site have any idea that when they draw their (esp underage) characters in a seifuku - with an outrageously short skirt that blows up provocatively- that they are unwittingly perpetuating JK culture (aka a phenomena linked with pedophilia and human trafficking of underage girls) and further cementing it in the west as a portrayal of japan and trying to make it seem positive and cutesy that they do so.

you can reblog this if you want btw like im not trying to “pull one over” these white artists or whatever i just find it really ignorant how this isn’t recognized as a problem but tbh have crusty weebs ever truly cared ab the genuine issues of the country they fetishize? no

I hope it was all very gay

proof the olympics is a greek invention

the greeks would be so proud

Yea this has been like an open secret since the 90’s. The vast majority of olympians are out of medal contention like IMMEDIATELY when competition starts. So then you’re there. For two weeks. With thousands of other world class athletes in great shape. And the thing you’ve been training forever for is out the window. However will you pass the time … with all the super hot athletes … mostly in their twenties… in the fantastic Olympic village ?? 🤔🤔🤔

Olympics AU, anyone?

I don’t get why people have done literally zero research about veganism love to argue with people who have spent years being vegan. Who have read books, googled everything, and are really passionate about a serious life long commitment.

It’s always hilarious because people often think that vegans know nothing about animal farming, failing to understand that most of us go vegan precisely because of what we know about farming. Your average vegan is far more knowledgeable about farming practices than your average meat eater. This can be demonstrated no more clearly than by looking at the comments on any vegan post and seeing the same old demonstrably false arguments stated with complete confidence, almost word for word, over and over again.

Trump won't stop tearing up official papers so the White House archives employ a staff to tape them back together for the National Archives

froakiepanchito:

randomthingsthatilike123:

mostlysignssomeportents:

Trump is notorious for his “filing system”: when he is finished with a piece of paper, he tears it into tiny pieces and throws it away, which is fine if you’re a CEO (maybe), but is radioactively illegal under the Presidential Records Act, because the President works for the public, and is required by law to archive their official papers and save them for public scrutiny.

White House staffers gave up on trying to explain this to Trump, who just kept on tearing up everything, from official letters from Senators to letters from constituents to notes and other paperwork.

The staffers – paid nearly $70,000 year – ended up with full-time jobs retrieving scraps of paper from Trump’s trash-can and piecing them back together with clear tape so they can be filed in the National Archives. Some of these staffers were eventually fired; they’ve spoken to Politico about their year in the Trump administration as paper-tapers.

https://boingboing.net/2018/06/11/presidential-records-act.html

i thought this was satire considering the topic and the site is called boing boing but no Politico also covered this. this is real.

Could you help out those of us who are struggling to adult and explain what “strong communications skills” are? Or rather, what employers like DFTBA mean when they ask for people with above said skills?

It’s basically bullshit resume speak for “I’m good at quickly understanding what people mean, and I am good at getting people to understand what I mean.”

This is a very hard thing to self-assess, so it’s a weird thing to ask for when looking for job applicants. But, also, for a job like this it’s basically the whole job, so we put it in there. You have to talk to people who might be frustrated, they might be very busy, they might be overly polite. So someone in creator relations has to be extremely respectful of the client’s time while conveying a lot of information politely and respectfully. Balancing brevity and respect…efficiency and politeness…professionalism and friendliness. It’s not a simple job.

You also have to have similar productive relationships with product developers, designers, and manufacturers.

Basically, “Good communications skills” is job application code for “Your job is going to be to call people on the phone and send emails, so you need to understand that that isn’t a tool with which you do your job, it is your job, and so we’re looking for people who have spent time developing that skill.”

Fun fact: Egyptian gods do not have ‘animal heads’. The depictions of gods are meant to contain a duality, as is important in Egyptian Religion (life/death, red land/black land, chaos/order, human/animal). So when you see, say, Anubis with a man’s body and a Jackal head it represents both his human form and his Jackal form, meaning he might appear in either form. But never as a human with a Jackal head. That is only something you’d see on temple walls for the duality aspect.

How di you know??

I mean it sounds likely but where are you getting your information from?

I’m an Egyptologist? This is literally my job.

But if you want a source, read: Silverman, D. (1991) Divinity and Deities in Ancient Egypt, In J. Baines, L. Lesko, & D. Silverman, Religion in Ancient Egypt: Gods, Myths and Personal Practice. Ithaca and London: Cornell University Press. 7-87.

Thanks for the sources.

I had just never heard about that fact before.

No worries! (I realise I put a full stop instead of an exclamation mark at the end of “this is literally my job” which might have sounded harsh, so I apologise!)

This is a very pure interaction

this is exactly how you should react to hearing new information that you’re skeptical of or don’t immediately believe is true

NYC PHP Reboot - First up "Getting Specific About APIs" with Phil Sturgeon

engineering:

tl;dr Come and join us for the NYC PHP meetup @ Tumblr on March 1st 2018.

When

March 1st 2018, 7pm - 9pm

Where

35 East 21st Street (21st & Broadway), New York, 10010

Details

The monthly NYC PHP Meetup is getting rebooted in 2018! The first meetup will be hosted at Tumblr HQ in New York City, with Phil Sturgeon as headline speaker and two or three lightning talks.

About Phil Sturgeon

When he’s not talking about falling off bikes Phil Sturgeon is passionate about building great APIs. Sometimes scientists forget to label their units and they crash satellites into planets. Phil’s science teacher always told him to label his units and JSON Schema is how you do that in a HTTP API, even AMQP too! Come and learn about the future of APIs and other PHP topics.

We want you - for lightning talks

We are looking for 2-3 lightning (10-15 min) talks about anything PHP related. If you’re interested, please get in touch with Oli Griffiths via Meetup, or @oligriffiths on Twitter. This is a great way to get into the speaking community, and to test out material you might like to submit to conferences.

What to bring

  • A great attitude to all things PHP.
  • Laptops are not necessary but we will have wifi capabilities if you want to hack along.
  • Tumblr is generously providing pizza 🍕 and 🍺 beer/drinks.

How to RSVP

Please use Meetup to RSVP. Feel free to bring a guest if they’re not using Meetup, or encourage them to join so they can stay up-to-date.

- @oli

fact checking and critical thinking are your friends. in conversations about academia and science you should always feel comfortable asking people to cite their sources. dont let people get away with just making shit up

So I shouldn’t let you get away with making shit up? Being straight is a thing. Get over it.

well youre just going to have to cite your sources then, arent you.

Gladly. I can name SEVERAL heterosexual relationship full of love. Someone can be attracted to someone of the opposite sex without being bi,pan, or poly. People can be attracted to the opposite sex and only be attracted to that sex. Personally I can’t understand it due to the fact I’m a lesbian. But people can be straight. You however. Can’t see that for some unknown reason. Oh ya. It’s just because you’re a heterophobe. How would you like it if someone told you “being gay isn’t a thing” or bi or pan or whatever. Wouldn’t you be irritated/offended? Get some common sense and stop being such a dick.

interesting opinion but could you possibly cite some sources? i would love to do some research on this myself. :)

It’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. I’m not sure what kind of sources you’re expecting. Just look around you. Straight people exist. Straight people are happy. Just think about your parents! (That is unless you have gay parents or they’re divorced) Obviously you came from somewhere! It takes a man and a woman to have a kid! (Unless you adopt/surrogate but even those children came from somewhere) You’re ignorant to facts.

im really trying to give you the benefit of the doubt here—could you please back your claim with some concrete information?

I honestly don’t know what other evidence you want other then people can be happy with whoever they want and exist!

if you cant provide evidence to support your claim im going to end this discussion in the spirit of not encouraging misinformation. if youd like to continue this conversation my askbox is open but i would.. really ask you not publicly post harmful pseudoscience. there are a lot of impressionable teenagers on tumblr, yknow?
